Fast Four | Mikhara Ramsing: Change Maker & Social Advocate

By June 29, 2018Event

Since graduating high school in 2008, Mikhara Ramsing has created quite the list of accomplishments. 2017 saw Mikhara start not just one, but two social enterprises – Ground Chai & Ethnic LGBT+.

  • Ground Chai is centred around connection. The driving force behind the business “is the belief that stories save lives”. Youth are encouraged and empowered to think about their own stories, whilst listening and sharing alongside others… all while drinking a cup of chai!
  • Ethnic LGBT+ is “Australia’s first website providing support, education, resources and mentoring for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD/Ethnic) LGBT+ individuals”. It’s a safe place where individuals can share their stories, considered by the NSW LGBT+ peak body as a much needed resource for Australian communities.

“Your story can save a life”

Mikhara shared her story with our epic 800 strong crowd at Brisbane City Hall! She emphasised doing everything from a place of love, recognising that our fears are the cages we build in our head. Mikhara encouraged creating a vision of our own acceptance within the world.

When we asked Mikhara our Fast Four, this is what she had to say…

What are you most passionate about?

Capturing people’s stories and letting them know they are not alone, allowing them to see themselves and feel connected.

What action are you taking to influence change in that area?

I started a social enterprise called Ethnic LGBT+, which is Australia’s only national platform, for the stories of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) LGBTIQA+ individuals to be captured, shared and heard.

What is the greatest lesson you have learnt on your journey so far?

Stories save lives. It is only by sharing my own stories, letting others in that I was able to break the cages of fear I had built in my head and live my best life.

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

Be kind to yourself, you’re exactly where you are meant to be. No more. No less.
