At yLead, we pride ourselves on creating meaningful, engaging, world class experiences for young people.

Recently your students attended one of our incredible conferences and though they had a chance to develop and grow during that time, it is now time to share that growth with others at your school. For the first time ever our Teacher Kits will be virtual, and able to be accessed for the whole year with new content getting added as its made. This will be your way of sharing the awesome yLead content to those at your school, empowering them to be future leaders.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE CLASSROOM

  • Recharge!

    As leadership teams, we are constantly busy trying to juggle the role with studies, extra curricular activities, and a social life. Sometimes we can move through the year at this fast pace without taking time to reflect on everything we’ve done. This lesson plan can be used at any time of the year, and is a useful way for students or leadership teams to reflect on lessons and highlights from the previous term (e.g. Term 1), as well as refocusing and recharging for what’s to come. This reflection can be done in small or large groups, allowing not only individual thoughts, but an opportunity to learn and grow from others’ experiences as well. It can be adapted to include physical activity, or just worksheet reflection.

  • Connection Cards

    yLeadConnection Cards are perfect for building a closer knit team and uniting a small group.The game allows students to share a little about themselves in a fun and supportive environment. The activity is ideally used in classroom sized groups (15-25pax) where honesty and appreciation is a necessity, for example; home rooms, tutor groups, form classes, leadership teams. This activity can be used to help students get a better understanding of their fellow classmates and /or team; building a strong, supportive and open group of young people.Connection Cards is an adaptation of a non-competitive learning/communication board game created by Rhea Zakich. It is a game of conversation which ‘fosters listening skills as well as self-expression’.

  • Wheel of Life

    The Wheel of Life is a great tool that helps students to recognise the many areas of their life that contribute to their personal wellbeing. It is a fantastic exercise to complete when setting new goals, in times of reflection, or discovering new areas of focus. It is a self assessment tool that is widely used in personal coaching for personal success and working towards a more life balance. yLead has adapted the sections of the Wheel of Life to specifically accommodate students of a wide range of ages across secondary school.

PROJECT ACTION

Each year, yLead works with thousands of students across Australia and New Zealand, educating and empowering young people about what it takes to be a great 21st century leader. A highlight of yLead’s calendar is the 3-day residential Australian Student Leadership Conference, which runs in Brisbane, Townsville, Adelaide & Melbourne (also in New Zealand as Rangatira). In 2010, Project ACTiON (then known as the Community Leaders Awards) was designed to capture the momentum built at this awesome conference and give students the opportunity to implement initiatives back at their own schools using the skills, knowledge and energy they gained at Conference. Project ACTiON is the living evidence that ‘leadership is any action that makes the world I touch a better place’.

The challenge is simple, “implement a creative, impactful and engaging project in your school which aims to make your world a better place”. Participants in Project ACTiON are provided with a range of project development resources, specifically designed for Project ACTiON. At the conclusion of each project, participants submit a one-page report and a 3 minute pitch video, which explains the purpose behind their project and the results of what they implemented.
