Colours of Leadership with Joe Mikaele Ah-Kuoi

By February 8, 2022February 10th, 2022Event

Day One of our North Queensland Australian Student Leadership Conference [ASLC] introduced us to Joe Mikaele Ah-Koui, Founder of the Townsville based Youth Leadership Development organisation, Strive Lane. Joe too was introduced to the one-of-a-kind ASLC space, where students listened intently to the authentic telling of his life’s journey, and the all important lessons he has learnt along the way.

Joe provided key messages such as, “Respect your reputation, it’s the gateway to your future.” and, “Find your why, it will drive you through all the critics.” His story was reflective of our yLead core values, particularly, ‘Be Better Tomorrow Than You Are Today’; And we know each lesson he spoke has made a resounding impact to our North Queensland ASLC student leaders!

Here’s what Joe had to share when we asked him about his Colours of Leadership:

Red is the colour of passion. What is your driving passion that gets you out of bed each morning?

The pure love of being able to empower and educate our young generation to exercise their true potential as well as leaving a legacy of the work I do behind for my own children.

Blue is the colour of vision. What big dreams/goals/vision do you have for the future? Is there something you are particularly focused on for 2022?

Providing opportunities for young people to be in their element utilising their natural/hidden talents to explore, be creative, execute and make a positive impact on their communities.

Green is the colour of growth. What’s something you are currently trying to work on and grow to be a better leader tomorrow than you are today?

I cannot settle for the person I am and the level of work I do today as tomorrow is always another opportunity to be and do better than yesterday.

Yellow is the colour of service. How are you using your skills and passions to serve others around you?

Connecting with young people on their level of interest as a support person gives me the opportunity to educate them more effectively on developing their understanding of their untapped skill of self-leadership which positively affects the way they think, behave and live.

White is the colour of integrity. What are your top 2 values and what examples can you give of how you implement them in your world of leadership?

Integrity: the main value that governs the way I live and deal with people, business and lifestyle. There have been people I have had to have the honest and difficult conversations with – this comes quite naturally being a realist. Social connection: developing genuine relationships with the right type of people and filtering out/limiting time with people that don’t add value to my personal growth and life.
