Every year yLead runs a series of one-day leadership events, known as Altitude Day, for Year 9 students from across the country. This year we took the roadshow to two new locations, down South to Canberra and across the country to Perth.
Over two weeks, the team managed to deliver 11 events across 6 states. We partnered with 17 amazing speakers who shared their wisdom with more than 1,800 Year 9 students!
The days were a huge success, inspiring students to dream big and encouraging them to seek out and grab opportunities in life. The day’s impact was felt on both a personal level by those who attended, and also by schools that benefit from the enthusiasm and ideas their students return with.
Our Incredible Speakers
The day’s speakers each shared their personal journey, including hardships, failures and successes. Each with a unique message of what leadership means to them.
Dan Flynn encouraged students to be bold and take risks. His mantra – impossibility is only someone’s opinion. Future Paralympian, Brant Garvey, emphasised the importance of embracing what makes you different. Stroke survivor, Barnaby Howarth, opened up about his personal struggles and stressed that how you can’t chose what happen sometimes, but you can chose how you respond. Long-time speaker, Rowie McEvoy, shared her tips on how to live a happy and healthy life with another generation of leaders.
A common message across all our speakers – be your true authentic self, grab opportunities, surround yourself with great people and take action!
